I've been to Cuba several times but never at this resort and from now on, I will be returning to this resort only!!! FOOD: EXCELLENT for those who think Cuba food is just ok, let me tell you I did not lose 1 lb (try the FLAMBÉ station ☺) All kinds of meats on the grill, fresh fish, shrimps galore & book ALL the a la carte restos!!! LOBSTER ...Mmmmmmmmm SERVICE: not everyone had the updated bathroom with the rain shower so ask for it (I was in building 19) the staff are so friendly and their French & English was remarkable considering my poor Spanish. And yes....DIXON, what a character and he does try his best to make you feel welcome and beautiful. Just listen for his call (bird whistle) he's the one who makes the beautiful hearts FOREVER. You'll understand once there LOL. Look for Luis (bartender at beach) Katia/Maria and many more who will make your stay a memorable one. I strongly recommend to pay the 15 pesos for diner by the beach at sunset 7pm and bring a shawl as its cool/breezy this time of year at night. You will not regret this place...I miss it so much right now. HOLA TO ALL AND GRACIAS ♥

Just came home for a weeks stay....my 2nd time at the PRDO (and not my last!). Went with a fantastic group of friends and had a reunion with a group from the UK we met last time! The resort did not disappoint! Everything was as amazing as last time. Fabulous views, amazing beach and snorkeling, staff beyond compare, excellent food and atmosphere! Can't say enough about this place. Will definitely be back!
We were there from March 4th to the 10th 2016 what a wonderful vacation destination. We have been to Cuba a couple of times and decided not to return due to disappointing accommodations and food. This resort was absolutely wonderful in every way. We had a junior suite deluxe with an ocean view. It was so amazing!! The outdoor shower was just awesome!!! The staff are polite and always accommodating. I would highly recommend this resort if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation.
We absolutely love this resort so much we just had to come back and spend two weeks but this time we had our wedding and honeymoon at the Paradisus. Everything was top notch and the service was spectacular. The staff are not just employees, they are friends and its a mutual feeling as well! Have been to lots of other Caribbean destinations and we can't imagine going elsewhere. There are a lot of repeat guests for a reason. Tons of included activities like scuba and water activities included and the food /beverages are fantastic. The beaches, pools, spas, restaurants, grounds are all very well maintained and well cared for. Its a vacation destination that is a must! The staff go out of their way to provide a wonderful time for you. Can't wait to return again.
I really enjoyed my 2 weeks at the hotel in january 2015. Had the best massage, snorkling from the beach was amazing (although it is rocky to get in the water), daily salsa lessons were fun, the evening events (opera, cuba bands, fashion show, water ballet, dance shows) were extremely good, food was excellent and diversified, beach was long enough for good walks, lots of chairs by the beach, water clear and beautiful, the rooms are big and quiet and the staff is soooooo friendly. I am going back again in january 2016. The only thing was the smell coming from the lacune which was unpleasant when the wind was coming from that direction.
What an amazing place, I spent my honeymoon at this resort from February 12 to the 15, 2015. My husband and I had a great time, peaceful and relaxing place, all inclusive adults only was what we needed those days. The service was great, the people that works there very friendly, charismatic, and always with a smile in their face. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT, drinks all day everywhere, the beach, the pool, the rooms were spacious, and just perfect for my husband and I, next time I will try to stay in one of their wonderful Villas, they are amazing and more if you want to bring some family members with you. EVERYTHING WAS JUST AMAZING !!!!!. Can't wait to go back again to this Paradise.
What a fantastic way to start our married life. A beautiful Hotel, with friendly helpful staff. The food devine, as was the pool. Our room was pretty, clean and very well laid out. We were very sad to leave. so much so, we rebooked for next year on the day we arrived home. We cannot wait to be part of paradise next year. Thanks you for a wonderful time

PRDO ~ A Favourite that Never Disappoints June 2014 We were looking forward to this our 6th trip back to Paradisus Rio de Oro and the 4th with the Royal Service. There was some hesitation also as we have been so very pleased each & every previous trip would one more time break the charm? Not at all! We are people that never saw ourselves as returning guests to a resort as there is just so much to see & why get stuck at one place was our perspective. The staff, service & an almost indescribable atmosphere at this resort indeed has us coming back again ....and again ...and again. Royal Service The impressiveness of the Royal Service section of Paradisus Rio de Oro is only surpassed by the staff and their abilities. A small example, 2nd morning breakfast the server said to me, “Would you like pineapple juice again this morning?”. The answer was “yes please.” but I was also thinking at the same time ...humm what did I eat last night, I had juice yesterday for breakfast?. This is the kind of service each and every member of the staff we encountered supplied. They seem to look for the details that would make our experience with them just a little better than our last encounter. This remarkable attentiveness to quality of care occurs naturally and appears without effort; but we are each and every time it happened taken back (in a good way) at how professional the staff is at this resort. The Royal Rooms We stayed in an Ocean-view room. The Royal rooms are spacious, & so clean it feels like you are the first person to ever stay in the room. The few suggestions I had made on our last visit were taken & there was a drying line outside & the outdoor balcony lights were off at night. Wow, again impressed! The massive king-size bed is comfortable, and the sheets wonderfully soft. There are extra blankets & extra pillows in the room along with beach towels. There is an iron...but I am (chuckle) uncertain why, who irons on vacation? In the room you have a flat screen TV, CD radio player, desk & chair, 2 comfortable chairs, a couch, coffee table, a divan, a large closet with open shelves and drawers, a coffee pot, fridge and safe. There is a ceiling fan & excellent air-conditioning. In the washroom there is a massive soaking tub, two sinks, hair dryer, scales (I assume for luggage, as who weighs themselves on vacation?) and a kit with soaps, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bath salts and shower cap. The towels I think are new as they are soft, thick & plush terry. On the covered balcony there is a table and pair of comfortable chairs. All and all ~ great rooms. Food We were there in low season. I start with that but other than rotating openings for the al a carte restaurant all was great. On a couple of occasions the service was a bit slower than normal. The food at the Royal would rival any food we have back home in an upscale establishment. Lots of care is given to preparation and the presentation and we appreciate that as it adds to the enjoyment of the meal. From the Buffet to any of the other 6 places in the main hotel to eat plus the Royal restaurant the food was very good to excellent, hot and well served. The only place we did not eat was the Japanese and only because we ran out of nights. El Patio still has A/C & heating regulation problems so wear short sleeves and take a wrap if you are a lady but the food is worth the temperature fluctuations. We have removed wheat & gluten from our diet and all the servers were happy to accommodate and able meet our requests. I think they have changed espresso bean supplier’s hotel wide and I find the current brand a bit weak for my pallet. But that is my only real food related complaint. The Lobby(s) The Royal Lobby is very open & fresh. I find the chairs are too low and too deep to be comfortable for sitting any long period of time. (One possible quick interim fix might be to have extra cushions to support your back) The sight lines everywhere are magnificent and attention to detail is not lost to my eye. Suggestion for the Royal pool side area..... If there is a way a pool table could be added, maybe there is a way to turn the TV room into a games room. It would be nice for diverse activity at night or late afternoon. IMHO The PRDO main lobby still needs some major revamping. It is well used but not welcoming. The laneway that leads to the Cigar store is the exception as it is pleasant to the eye and relaxing to use. If they took this theme to modify the whole area would add to the enjoyment of the area & would invite more comfortable use. The area urgently needs a new stage so that the sight lines are better and chairs more comfortable for all heights including ladies. The main bar needs to be placed where more air can circulate around. The area is well used, but improvements would add to the guest’s enjoyment. Entertainment The evening entertainment seems to be steadily improving over the years. In the main lobby there are 2 or 3 sets of entertainers starting at 7:00pm leading up to the main stage later in the evening. This is a good format for the resort. We were fortunate to hear Dulcé Maria Lopez sing twice as a solo artist on this trip. She has an amazing voice. The Property From the front lobby to the walking paths and beach all areas are well maintained and there are surprising finds everywhere. On this trip we found in the plant nursery, open for all to tour, a mock Cuban home and a chest board among the calm of the trees. The Pools The Spa and Royal pools are very nice, good size and easy to use. The main resort pool while huge is in desperate need of a facelift which they are undertaking in July / Aug of this year (2014). Venders There are some craft people that sporadically come to the resort (low season situation) in an area that is very sub-par to the rest of the resort. There are a few vendors in a dark hallway en-route to the bank, a well air-conditioned store and a very nice cigar store. It is really nice to have some on property choices but the vendors should have an area that invites people to come and is in keeping with the look of the rest of the resort. Having a bank on-site is convenient. Closing Remarks The resort is luxury without being stuffy. It is comfortable without being too casual. From the food to the rooms we have enjoyed the overall experience. It is just what we needed to recharge our batteries and de-stress ourselves from our daily routine. It is a friendly welcoming destination that we are already planning our next trip, hopefully again this year.
Having lived and worked in other Countries in the Caribbean I was expecting that standard of service etc. I was very surprised and Cuba and especially Paradisus Rio De Oro have changed my views. We had an incredible time the service was exemplary. The dining was better than expected. The room and house keeping was better than anticipated. Our only complaint was not long enough stay due to work schedules. The next stay will be at least 9 days 1 day in 1 day out and 7 days uninterupted.
this hotel not only stood up to peoples reviews, it beat them hands down. the staff the best ever encountered on any of out travels. and we travel 5*+ 4 to 5 times a year. we read the reviews and decided to take the chance as it was our brother-in-laws retirement holiday. we wanted something special and they gave us a fantastic holiday to remember. everyone has their own expectations, so to advise anyone to go anywhere just because you enjoyed it so much is difficult i would recomend this hotel and the Royal Service to anyone. i fail to see how it can be beaten. thank you Norma and all the staff. we will return with more friends
This place was absolutely magnificent! Right from the moment we arrive, we were treated like royalty. Champagne as soon as we arrived (which by the way was at midnight) and a very speedy check-in. A car was there right away to drive us to our room and the people were very nice and accomodating. Once in the room, we ordered a small snack from room service, which arrived withing 15mins. And the food here is AMAZING!! I know there are a lot of stories about food in Cuba, but this place is 5 star dining all the way! The staff were so friendly and helpful with any request we had. And the snorkeling....OH MY LORD! You can use their equipment free of charge, walk 10ft off the beach and you are right in the middle of a coral reef! The other big plus was 24hr security on the beach. We were able to take a romantic moonlit beach stroll with no worries at all, except for the giant crabs of course LOL This place is amazing and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Cuba.

Paradisus Rio De Oro ~ Royal Service June 2013 It is like staying with a favorite Aunt and Uncle after 4 trips, this is our 5th trip, to this amazing resort. They know what you like and they are consistently looking for ways to enhance your experience at the resort. They remember details about each of their clients repeat or newbie that seems super human and effortless to them; you are left with any feeling of genuine care....Just like visiting a favorite Aunt and Uncle..... The Royal Service Rooms The massively generous size rooms are remarkably clean. I am allergic to chemicals or perfumes and with a request our room was cleaned free of smells. Without the use of pesticides in our room was bug free, other than the few flying bugs that expired around the outdoor lights on the balcony at night. These, much to my glee, were 90% cleaned up by a bird in the area and any not to his fancy were swept away by the chambermaid later in the morning. (We are talking about only a few drawn to the light at night)....To awake to the sounds of birds and ocean in the morning is one of my true joys and even though most of the Royal rooms are up a tall hill off the water the waves are quite easily heard over the calm. Our room had a massive bed that was very comfortable. The linens even with a slight sunburn one day were soft and a treat to sleep upon. There is a choice of pillows if you have a special need; which again is a client focused service few places in Cuba offer. Each room has the amenities of bath robes, soft towels, full toiletry kit, bath salts (3 kinds), flat screen TV, cd player, coffee pot (with selection of 3 different teas & coffee), umbrellas, constantly filled mini fridge, and iron (do not know why anyone would iron on holidays). The A/c and ceiling fan both worked well. Our A/c was a bit noisy and we were happy to find there was a timer setting so we put it on for a bit until we fell asleep. Water pressure and availability of hot water was excellent in the outdoor shower and sinks. Unfortunately I did not take advantage of the massive tub, next trip I will. When Wi-Fi is available in the rooms it will be appreciated and a wonderful addition. We had 2 minor issues with the room. We enjoy sleeping with the drapes open as that way you can see the ocean 1st thing as you wake up, The patio lights do not have a switch to turn them off and they are bright enough they were bothersome on the 1st night. That was easily fixed in the morning by unscrewing the bulbs. ( and yes we did tighten them back up before we left) The 2nd is the only drying line is in the toilet area over the toilet-paper...(bit of a design fault here). It would be nice to have a line in the outdoor shower area as it is hot and private and items can be dried quickly. The Food There is ABSOLUTLY wonderful food at Royal Service on all 3 meals. With one wee exception..... they changed their bacon source. I loved the Cuban bacon and was saddened to see it replaced with a formed style of pork. Well it was probably better for me but it was sad not to have that wonderful flavour in the morning. Small issue as all else was good. As I consider other trips in low season I think they have done a remarkable job at all the restaurants. The various PRDO eating spots are good, but I did hear with the low occupancy this week the information about what was open was not clearly conveyed to the guests. Needlessly there were a few upset guests. The Grounds Despite the various hurricanes the battle scars are all but invisible if you have never seen the resort before. All the credit is shared by all the staff along with the ground keepers. The last hurricane, Sandy, all the resort workers spent 3 weeks solid working not only at their regular post but in addition restoring order to the resort. Truly amazing their dedication to the resort. The details, like flowers along the walkways, clean sightlines so that you experience both the lush and richness of the area and also have the ability to see ahead of you all shows in my opinion respect for the guest’s experience. The addition of stone planks giving you the names of the various trees (and even some of their ages) and some of the birds in the area is a nice addition. I have one small suggestion here for the Royal area (and the main resort) as it would be nice to have a few benches along the path to the rooms. It would be nice to take a sit once enroute and enjoy the views along the way. The only area that seems out of character for the resort is the craft venders. At Meliá Cayo Guillermo they made an area for them that seem more like a small village. It had character and more inviting for the guests to visit. The Beaches They are cleaned nicely from the odd bits of sea grasses that come on shore, which is great. I like Playa Esmeralda but I do wish there was a way they could have a dock that would allow people wanting to get into the water to easily bypass the rocks that often will appear on the shore. It would be something similar to Meliá Cayo Guillermo’s pier/dock. I know it is not the resort’s ability to manage the lagoon but it smelt a bit ‘ripe’ when we were there. Not on the resort but on our beach walk. The Spa I have used the spa on all our trips. Normally it is a great treat and well worth the dollars but on this trip they were not on their game. The treatment was substandard to what I have received previously and the steam bath was not working. In the past we received a better rates being from Royal.... kinda’ a bad combination, higher rates and poorer service. The Pools The Royal`s infinity pools are magnificent. And as of this week they have a couple of well placed hammocks to one side of the pool. The new loungers around the pool are great. The wooden ones looked nice but the new ones are far more comfortable and clean. The PRDO pool is showing a few battle-scars from the storms and age but in chatting with management they have a short and long term plan to keep a pool open while renovations are underway and weather permitting it will be in this year. It is only a cosmetic thing, not a functional one. The Lobby The Royal Lobby very beautiful. As a lady, I find the chairs are too deep and too low to be comfortable for sitting any long period of time. I enjoy the night music a lot and Markus, the pianist is incredible. One suggestion for the area..... if there is a way that a pool table could be added, maybe turn the cigar room into a games room. That would be wonderful. The PRDO lobby needs some major rethinking. It is well used but not welcoming to me. The laneway that leads to the Cigar store is wonderful and if they took this theme to modify the whole area would be nice and make it more inviting to use. The area desperately needs a new stage so that the sight lines are better and the main bar needs to be placed where more air can circulate. The Staff No way can a review give all the credit due to the staff. There are staff like Norma Richardo and Taimi Quiñones, of Royal service that have a way of making things happen while also making it appear effortless. And then there is Carols, .... one of the Royal butlers/staff.... It had been raining and I was looking to see if I could find a rainbow. I could not so returned to my backgammon game. About 10 minutes later he came over and said he had found a rainbow for me. I did not even know he had heard me say to my husband what I was doing.... or maybe the camera in hand looking around gave it away...there is a moral here.... “Even when it rains, the Royal Staff can find rainbows for you.” There are many others that I by lack of space I am not mentioning but all deserve lots of credit and appreciation in making this trip, once again, a remarkable escape and retreat. I want to thank in addition to the ones already mentioned Sarah and Dunieski from sales, Neysi from La Laguna restaurant, and the best espresso maker Luis at the main bar. The Summary This is an amazing resort and this vacation met and exceeded all our needs and expectations.
I had noticed this hotel a couple of times in the past and upon hearing rave reviews from a number of people my boyfriend and I decided to book for our first vacation together. We arrived April 16th for a one week vacation..... In PARADISE. I have been to a number of 5* resorts in the past and the service and natural environment here puts it heads and tails above the rest. We had the royal service upgrade, the benefits were icing on the cake for us. Food was great, coffee....off the charts, rooms were beautiful (loved the outdoor shower and rainfall shower head). So many positives.... WE ARE COMING BACK IN TWO WEEKS.... Yup that's right June 11, two months after our first trip. We haven't been able to stop thinking about it.... We met a number of couples who had been guests 10+ times...proof enough of the quality and consistency with this hotel. Thank you staff of the Paridusis Rio de Oro, see you soon !
We travelled to the resort in March 2012. It was a wonderful experience. The staff are so friendly and would do anything to make sure our holiday went well. The restaurants are excellent and the buffet has something for everyone. Our room was a bit tired and could have done with a make over but we understand that the resort is in the process of systematically refreshing all of the rooms. Testament to how much we enjoyed our stay? well, we will be returning to the resort in February 2013. Now that is something we've never done before in all of our years of travelling. To the staff at the PDRO, Muchas Gracias for a wonderful holiday. Richard & Lily.
Absolut Spitze! Zimmer. Essen Personal - alles auf sehr hohem Niveau.
